Enrichment Classes
The Learning Center seeks to motivate and foster the development of the whole child by providing a wide variety of learning experiences. In addition to an innovative and individualized academic program, LCEC offers numerous enrichment classes such as music, art, physical education, world languages, and computer technology.
Music
Music is an integral part the curriculum at LCEC. Preschoolers begin by singing a variety of songs that encourage language development. Elementary students learn about rhythm, tempo, melody, musical notation, composers, and have the opportunity to learn how to play the recorder and the violin. Middle and secondary students can record original music and are taught basic recording techniques using the latest computer software and digital technology.
The entire student body is encouraged to perform in three musical productions throughout the school year. The music department also offers students the opportunity to be a member of the school Concert Choir. This group of children performs in all school productions as well as in the community. The LCEC Concert Choir has performed at The Hermitage, at a local Veteran’s home, and has even auditioned on Broadway!
Back to TopComputer Technology
Computer technology is a vital part of our overall program. The Learning Center seeks to provide a state of the art education for all of its students. Classroom teachers and computer specialists work together to integrate the use of computers into the regular classroom curriculum and maximize technological opportunities for learning. Each student beginning in the upper elementary grades has the use of a personal computer or laptop in the classroom.
Preschoolers learn how to use a mouse through games that reinforce lettering and number skills. Elementary students learn the proper way to boot up a computer, run applications from CDs and the network, and practice typing skills. They type journals and poems in Microsoft Word and add borders and clip art to individualize their work. Students also practice navigating through Excel spreadsheets by preparing monthly calendars and create and present short Power Point presentations. Middle and secondary students prepare all of the brochures for our school productions and science fair as well as a monthly newsletter. They become proficient with the more sophisticated applications in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and Apple iWork Pages.
Back to TopArt
The art program at The Learning Center allows students to express themselves through a variety of media. Preschool children work towards improving fine motor skills and learn about color, shape, and texture. Elementary students gain awareness of depth, shadow, and perspective through drawing and painting. They experiment with color and have the opportunity to make prints, collages, sculptures, and work with clay. Middle and secondary students gain an appreciation of art by studying art history.

The Physical Education program seeks to improve motor skills, encourage physical fitness, build self esteem, and foster teamwork and sportsmanship. Younger students learn group cooperation and improve motor skills through obstacle courses, relay races, and games. Elementary students develop the pre-requisite skills for various sports and work towards improving levels of physical fitness. Middle and Secondary students enjoy competing in sports such as basketball, floor hockey, flag football, and baseball. Students have the opportunity to join the school basketball, softball, and track and field teams and participate in the Special Olympics. The Learning Center also takes part in the Presidential Fitness Test, a nationwide program that encourages and celebrates physical fitness.
