About Us

About Our School

Established in 1978, The Learning Center for Exceptional Children is a private, not-for-profit special education school that is fully approved by the New Jersey State Department of Education. LCEC provides a stimulating and individualized educational program for students with unique physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs and is designed to enable each child to maximize his or her full academic potential and to develop positive social and life skills. It operates at two campuses in Clifton, NJ.

All of our teachers are certified by the New Jersey Department of Education. Our curriculum is designed to follow and surpass the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards, and to include those items which reflect student interests, needs, and “self” in today’s society. Our talented team of qualified teachers and professional staff is dedicated to providing our children with a challenging and rewarding academic experience in a caring and stimulating learning environment. Our class sizes are small by design, thereby enabling teachers to individualize instruction and maximize student potential. We take a holistic approach to education and are committed to the educational, social, and emotional well being of our students.

The Learning Center does not exclude students on the basis of sex, race, religion, color, national origin, or socio-economic background. Our children come from diverse ethnic, religious, racial, and cultural communities in and around Passaic, Bergen, Essex, and Hudson counties. We are dedicated to fostering a community that respects, values and promotes diversity.
